Chapter 4 – The NY Loft Experience

This project was a journey back to where it all began—my time in New York City, the place where I honed my craft and discovered the thrill of designing interiors with soul and story in mind. For the Ideal Home Show in October 2023, I recreated the essence of a NYC loft, blending old-world charm with sustainable design principles.

The space paid homage to the unique character of New York living. A worn red brick wall covering set the tone, reminiscent of the historic brownstones and lofts of Brooklyn. This was paired with Benjamin Moore’s Vintage Vogue, a rich, deep green that added warmth and sophistication. The finishing touch? Striking black-and-white photo art of the Brooklyn Bridge, grounding the room in its inspiration.

The mix of old and new came together beautifully, thanks to partnerships with industry suppliers. The star of the show was an old leather club chair sourced locally in Northern Ireland—a piece so inviting and full of character that visitors couldn’t resist sitting in it. It embodied everything I love about design: the ability to tell a story, evoke emotion, and invite connection.

To anchor the space, I included a rug from a local eco-friendly range—practical, sustainable, and machine washable, proving that style and functionality can coexist. Every piece in this room had intention, from the flea-market finds to the bespoke contributions of my industry partners.

For me, this project was more than just a design; it was a tribute to the city that shaped my approach to interiors. It’s a reminder that good design transcends geography, and while I’m creating beautiful spaces in Ireland, my heart and creativity remain inspired by both sides of the Atlantic.
